TNR Mecosta was formed in 2017, with the majority of volunteers having worked at the local animal shelter, ARC of Mecosta County, who supported our operation until 2022. As of spring 2022 TNR Mecosta is now its own 501(c)3 with a Board of Directors and four officer positions plus several volunteer positions. No one in TNR Mecosta receives a salary or is paid for their time.

Our primary focus is to humanely spay/neuter feral and community cats to reduce cat overpopulation in Mecosta County. This is through the process of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), a proven method that improves the lives of feral cats, improves their relationships with the people who live near them, and decreases the size of colonies over time.

Because feral cats are not adoptable, TNR provides a life-saving, effective solution and relieves cats of the constant stresses of mating and pregnancy. The cats’ physcial health improves, and mating behaviors cease, like roaming, yowling, spraying, and fighting.

TNR Mecosta sets an annual per cat spay/neuter fee for clients who receive our services. These fees, along with donations and fundraising activities, are what sustains our operation.

We are eager to serve the residents and cats of Mecosta County and are committed to improving the lives of feral cats and their human neighbors, one snip at a time.
