TNR Mecosta began 2023 with a successful bottle/can drive in January. January and February we pause our monthly meetings but work continued processing applications we had received in fall/winter.

As we reveiwed our client application list, there are some people who will have a hard time affording our per cat fee. If you or a business you know would like to “Sponsor a Spay Day”, please see our donation tab. We would love to be able to tell a client without the financial means that their spay/neuters have been covered and we will recognize your organization on our website.

Our first volunteer recruitment night was in February and we appreciated the Big Rapids Community Library allowing us to use their community room for our event. We had several volunteers complete applications and we welcome them to our group!

Site visits commenced in March and April, and they allow us to get a better look at the colony sites, the health of the colony, where we will place traps, and discuss the process with our applicants.

We have worked on some grant applications and thank Cargill for their support with a grant to help us purchase additional Tru Catch traps that we need this season. We will see what our other grant applications may yield.

We had our first ever Pickleball fundraiser in April at Ferris State’s Racquet & Fitness Center. All the playing slots were filled and we got some extra donations, so it was a very successful event, raising around $1,000.

All of these funds help with our operating expenses, and no volunteer with TNR Mecosta is paid for their time. It’s important to have these funds for the spay/neuter surgeries and supplies.

Wiener Wednesdays plan to resume on Wednesday, May 3, if weather permits. The Sawmill Saloon is a tremendous supporter of TNR Mecosta, and these weekly fundraisers with a fire roasted hot dog are a great time to gather with friends, have a hot dog, and support TNR Mecosta. THANK YOU to the Sawmill!

Thank you to everyone who saved and brought bottles/cans to us in September; we made almost $800! Keep saving your cans for cats! We will have another event in a few months. Save yourself the hassle, and save some cats in the process!

TNR Mecosta had a great time meeting Ferris State students at Bulldog Bonanza. Some of these students helped us with our can drive in September. We had several applications and look forward to working with them.

We are working on our last month of trappings and hoping October stays warm enough that we are able to service our clients who have been waiting patiently. We already have several applications for 2023, so apply for services soon so that you can get in the queue.
